EGR Valve
The EGR valve, short for Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, plays a crucial role in vehicle emissions control. It works by redirecting a portion of the engine’s exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber, where they can be re-burned. This process helps reduce the formation of nitrogen oxides (NOx), which are harmful pollutants produced during combustion.
However, over time, the EGR valve can become clogged with soot and other residues, leading to malfunctions. When this happens, the valve may fail to operate correctly, resulting in increased emissions and decreased engine performance. Regular maintenance and cleaning of the EGR valve can help prevent such issues and ensure that your vehicle runs smoothly while minimizing its environmental impact.
Signs of a faulty EGR valve include:
Rough idling or stalling
A noticeable fuel odor
Increased fuel consumption
Pinging, tapping, or knocking engine sounds
Failure to pass a smog test
Illumination of the Check Engine Light
Benefits of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) solutions include:
Improved throttle response and potentially increased horsepower
Possible fuel efficiency gains
Reduced engine temperature
Cleaner exhaust system
While it’s not illegal to remove the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) from your vehicle, it is against Regulation 61a(3) of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations to use a vehicle that no longer meets the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed for due to modifications. Removing the EGR typically violates these standards.
The potential penalties for non-compliance with Regulation 61a include fines of up to £1,000 for cars and £2,500 for light goods vehicles.
Please note that our EGR solutions are intended solely for ‘Off-Road Usage Only,’ such as track days, motorsports, and off-roading.
